The United State of Iowa

This is from last Sunday night, not sure how I didn't see it til now. Either way, Iowa is quickly becoming America's state. Que the Gopher comments from the haters. No excuse for that play over the final 8 minutes of that game. But I'm not jumping on the Fire Ferentz bandwagon, and probably never will. Because if you're going to fire Kirk Ferentz, you need to be sure the guy you replace him with is an upgrade. And outside of a handful of guys like Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, Les Miles, Urban Meyer, and maybe Bret Bielema, there aren't many guys I'd rather have leading my collegiate program.


The guy has worked miracles in the middle of the Heartland. We won an Orange Bowl 22 months ago for fuck's sake. He has won more games over the last 10 years than all but 2 Big Ten programs. He is constantly being seeked out by NFL teams for coaching vacancies, with KC Chiefs rumors still lingering.


And while some will be quick to show him the door, I think maybe we should learn something from the Steve Alford firing, where we fired a guy because he couldn't win in the NCAA tournament, and since his departure we have yet to even make a tournament. 


So stick with Ferentz, as he will win 7-10 games each year with a BCS bowl appearance every 5 years or so. Honestly, its eerily similar to the kind of program Hayden Fry is immortalized for heading. Sure, Ferentz will have games like Saturday, where his team losses to a lesser opponent, but so does Stoops, and Urban and Joe Paterno, and Mack Brown. Its called college football, where 18 and 19 year-olds make mistakes....... god I feel old, I'm gonna stop now. Drink Beers, Slam chicks and God Bless the United State of Iowa.
