Theo is in the fold.... Is Sandberg next?

If Theo goes to Chi, Sandberg will be favorite to be named manager. Theo tried to hire Sandberg for Pawtucket last winter

The good news is Theo Epstein is a top 3 baseball executive in the game right now. The bad news is he doesn't hit or pitch. But don't let White Sox fans spoil this signing for us Cubs fans. The Cubs finally made a smart baseball move and the rest of the national league central can't be happy about it. Granted half the remaining teams in the division are currently fighting it out for a spot in the World Series. But that's neither here nor there.

The Epstein signing gives us hope. Now we have a guy who has traded for guys like Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett using minor league talent he drafted. He also filled the Red Sox roster with homegrown talent like former MVP Dustin Pedroia, current MVP candidate Jacoby Ellsbury, and perennial ace Jon Lester. Other homegrown talents include Clay Bucholz, Kevin Youkilis and Jonathon Papelbohn.

Now, it seems like Theo Epstein also has the wherewithal to sign Ryne Sandberg as manager. It would bring back fans to the ballpark after the Cubs had their lowest total attendance this season since 2002. And it would also go a long way in establishing an identity for this ball club. Something we badly need on the north side these days.
